We receive many enquiries about the light colouring in our drinking water. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to inform you about why and how this discolouration occurs.<\/p>\n

Our drinking water is obtained from wells around the waterworks in the Wietmarsch district of F\u00fcchtenfeld, which lies on the edge of the natural landscape of the Bourtanger Moor. Raw water has been extracted and treated from the main wells for over 70 years.\n and treated. This distinctive light colouring has been present in the drinking water since this time. The local inhabitants know no other way.<\/p>\n

The colouring in drinking water is caused by so-called humic substances in the water. Humic substances are tiny organic compounds that mainly occur in water when it comes from boggy soils (peat layers) originates.<\/p>\n

Humic substances are harmless to health and indicate that the water is natural.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If there are very high flow velocities in the pipes in summer, this can cause<\/p>\n

Due to the high discharge volumes (garden watering and pool filling), this can lead to the water becoming even more discoloured than usual. Our waterworks then tries to prevent this by flushing the pipes in a controlled manner, but this discolouration can still occur.<\/p>\n

This natural phenomenon of discolouration is not unique; humic substances are also present in drinking water in other parts of Germany. Anyone who has ever been to Norderney, for example, will certainly have noticed that the drinking water has the same colour as in Wietmarschen due to the humic substances present there.<\/p>\n

It would be technically possible to remove the colouring from the water by using chemical process steps. <\/strong>The removal of humic substances would require the use of various chemicals. This would change the natural water structure without achieving a positive effect. The drinking water from the F\u00fcchtenfeld waterworks complies with all limit values of the Drinking Water Ordinance.<\/p>\n
